The process of obtaining a marriage license in the Town Clerk’s office takes about 20 minutes.  An appointment is necessary to be sure the Registrar is available to assist you.  The cost is $40 (cash or check payable to Town of Palmyra. We are open for licensing, by appointment, Monday – Friday from 9:00 am to 4:40 pm.

Couples wishing to obtain a marriage license may do so up to 60 days in advance of their wedding date; it must be obtained at least 24 hours before the wedding. Both parties must sign in person before the Registrar.

A person is required to establish proof of age and identity by submitting to the issuing clerk one of the following age related documents:

1. Birth Certificate with raised seal

2. Baptismal Record

3. Naturalization Record

4. Census Record

AND one of the following identity related documents:

1. Driver’s license with current address

2. Passport

3. Employment picture ID

4. Immigration Record

For previous marriages, the applicant must provide a copy of the final divorce decree showing that the divorce has been filed (usually a stamp on the first or last page which says “Filed” and the date). If there have been previous divorces, the applicant must provide the date those marriages ended. If a marriage ended due to spousal death that date must be provided.

The surname (last name) to be used after marriage is required for the marriage license application.  Please be prepared to provide this information at your appointment.  Also, please be aware that a marriage license cannot be modified or changed after it is issued.

REQUEST A COPY  OF A MARRIAGE RECORD

1. Provide a copy of your ID, (if by mail), completed form, including the date, names, etc. & $10 check per copy (payable to Town of Palmyra).

2. Mail request, or bring in person to Palmyra Town Clerk, 1180 Canandaigua Rd, Palmyra NY, 14522.

3. We will process when received, & provide to you by USPS or in person.
