At a meeting of the Board of Auditors to examine Town Officers Accounts held Tuesday

Feby. 27 1883     Present:

Nelson Reeves    Supervisor

H. J. Foster,  G. G. Jessup,  W. S. Phelps,  M. C. Finley     Justices

A. C. Hopkins       Town Clerk

The Board first examined the accounts of the Highway Commissioners and found them correct and on motion they were approved and accepted

Total receipts in the Highway Fund     $1076.21

Total disbursement                                 750.85

Cash on Hand                                        325.36

 

The Board then examined the supervisors accounts and found them correct and on motion they were approved and accepted

Total monies received by Supervisor             (nothing noted)

Total expenditures                                          (nothing noted)

Cash on hand                                                  (nothing noted)

 

The Board then examined the accounts of the Overseer of the Poor which was not finished this day, and Board adjourned to Saturday March 3, 1883 at 10 A.M. on which day the Board met and finished the examination of the accounts of the Overseer of Poor and found them correct and on motion they were accepted and approved

Total expenditures                        $1526.50

Cash on hand                                   825.15

Annual Town Meeting Minutes  1883

At the Annual town meeting held in and for the Town of Palmyra at the Village on Tuesday

March 6th 1883

Present Presiding     H. J. Foster. W. S. Phelps, M. C. Finley     Justices

                               A. C. Hopkins     Town Clerk

On motion G. G. Wilcox was chosen Poll Clerk, and at eight o’clock the Polls were declared opened, and a proclamation made that they would close at five thirty ( 5:30)

At one o’clock the Supervisors Report was read, which on motion was accepted and approved

The Overseer of Poor then read his Report, and on motion, it was accepted and approved

The Commissioner of Highways then read his report which was on motion was accepted and approved.

On motion it was voted to raise $250.00 to be expended  by the Overseer of Poor in purchasing and setting apart, in the Cemetery of Palmyra Village, a plot of land to be used for the Buriel of the bodies of any deseased honorably discharged Soldiers, Sailors ro Marines who at his death does not leave sufficient means to defray funeral expenses.

We the undersigned presiding Town Officers at the town meeting held Tuesday March 6th 1883, do hereby certify that the following named persons were duly elected to the offices set opposite their respective names, they having received the highest number of votes

We the presiding officers of the Annual Town Meeting held in the Town of Palmyra on the Sixth day of March 1883, do hereby appoint William H.  Bump in election district No. 1 and Fred C. Beal in election district No. 2 in said Town Inspectors of election in said districts respectively to be associated with the two in each of said districts respectively who have this day been elected Inspectors of Election for the ensuing year the said William H. Bump and Frank[as per record] C. Beal  each being one of the two persons who received at said town meeting the highest number of votes Respectively for said office of Inspector next to the two Inspectors elected.

Town of Palmyra

Whereas a vacancy has occurred in the office of the Justice of the Peace of the Town of Palmyra by reason of the death of Henry J. Foster heretofore elected to said office from said

Town.

Now therefore by virtue of the power vested in us by the statutes in such case made and provided, we the undersigned, the Supervisor, the Town Clerk, and the remaining Justices of the Peace of the said Town do hereby, in order to fill such vacancy nominate and appoint

Andrew R. Gamble  Justice of the Peace of said Town to hold his paid office until the expiration of the tern of Henry J. Foster deceased as by law provided.  Dec. 31st 1883

In virtue whereof we have hereto set our hands and seals this 28th day of April 1883

Where as vacancies have occurred in the office of Constables of the Town of Palmyra, Wayne Co. N.Y. by reasons of the refusal to serve by those elected.

Now there fore, by virtue of the power vested in us by statute in such cases made and provided.  We the undersigned Justices of the Peace of said Town, do hereby in order to fill one of said vacancies appoint Perry S. Feller one of the Constables of said Town to hold the said office until the next Annual Town Meeting of said Town as provided by law.  In witness we have hereto set our hands this 15th day of May 1883

Whereas vacancies have occurred in the office of Constables of the Town of Palmyra

Wayne Co. by reason of refusal to serve by those elected.

Now therefore , by virtue of power vested in ;us by statute, in such case made and provided we, the undersigned Justices of the Peace of said Town, do hereby, in order to fill one of said vacancies, appoint Fredk. V. Cleveland, one of the Constables of said Town, to hold the said office until the annual town meeting of said Town, as provided by law.  In witness we have hereto set our hands this 15th day of May, 1883

At a meeting of the Board of Auditors of the Town of Palmyra held in the Village  Hall Thursday

Meeting called to order at 9 A.M. and Board presided to examine accounts presented at

4 P.M.  the business for which the Board met not having been completed, on motion Board adjourned until Saturday  Nov. 10, 1882

At the adjourned meeting held as above motioned all the Board being present meeting was called to order and finished examining the accounts presented.  At the request of the Highway Com. The recommended that their be raised by tax the sum of Five hundred dollars for the purpose of building bridges in the Town

They also authorized the Supervisor to ask for Two hundred dollars for the support of the Poor for the coming year.
