1880 Palmyra Town Meeting
Minutes
At a meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Palmyra held at the office of M. C. Finley Esq. February 24th 1880 Present:

Mark C. Finley, Wm. H. Southwick, Henry J. Foster, Ornon Archer Justices
Geo. B. Lawrence Town Clerk Absent
The following proceedings were had, George Harrison Supervisor presented the account of the dog fund, which having been examined and compared with vouchers was found to be correct. The receipts during last year including balance on hand at the end of last,
Amounted to $109.80 amount paid out $98.90 leaving balance on hand $10.90. The Town Clerk being absent, Wm. H. Southwick was duly elected pro Tem. School Fund Supervisor reports received from County Treasurer $2952.79 all of which has been paid to the several districts entitled to the same, the board having compared the vouchers and certificates of apportionment and having compared them with the items of the Supervisors account found them correct. The Auditors them examined the accounts of the Poor Master and found as follows: Received by the Poor Master from the Supervisor from March 1st 1879 to February
21, 1880 the sum of $3051.05 which amount has by said poor master been paid out for the support of the poor of said town. Commissioners of Highways presented a report which was accepted and approved, vouchers for disbursements examined and found to be correct. Supervisor submitted his account which was duly examined vouchers compared therewith and
found to be correct as follows, reports including amount on hand at last settlement was $7077.96 disbursements for past year was $5116.53 leaving a balance in supervisors hands
$1961.43.
I hereby certify the forgoing to be a correct copy of the original minutes of the proceedings of said meeting now on file in this office.

At the Annual Town Meeting held in the Village of Palmyra in and for the Town of Palmyra, on Tuesday March 4, 1880
Present Presiding
Wm. H. Southwick, H. J. Foster, M. C. Finley, Ornon Archer Justices
In the absence of the Town Clerk the board appointed John C. Cotes Clerk pretem
At 8 oclock A.M. the Polls of the election were declared open and the electors proceeded to vote.
At 1:30 P.M. the report of the supervisor was read and approved. The report of the Commissioner of Highway was handed to the clerk and in his absence could not be obtained for a reading at the meeting.
The recommendation of the auditors to raise twenty five hundred dollars for the support of the poor for the ensuing year after much debate was amended and the meeting
Resolved that fifteen hundred dollars be raised by tax for the support of the poor for the ensuing year.
The motion the same resolution in regard to the ? ? of the Justices over the Overseer of the poor be the same as last year was Lost.
It was moved that the expences of the Overseer of the Poor be published in both of the Village papers monthly the names of each person helped and the amountCarried
It was moved that the Bill of Dr. D. L. Mason amt. forty five dollars be paid by the town and charged to the poor fund---Carried
It was moved that one hundred & fifty dollars be raised to repair the read between H. Carpenter & A. S. Posts---Carried
We the undersigned presiding officers of the town meeting held March 4, 1880 do hereby certify that the following persons were duly elected to the offices sat opposite their respective names they having received the highest number of votes for said office

We do hereby appoint James Borne Jr. in election district No. 1 and Eugene Brewster in election district No. 2 in said town Inspectors of Election in said districts respectively to be associated with the two in each of said districts who have this day been elected Inspectors of Election. The said James Borne Jr. and Eugene Brewster each being the persons who received the highest number of votes next to those elected.
On motion the Board adjourned sine die
