1876 Palmyra Town Meeting Minutes

 

At a meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Palmyra held at the office of M. C. Finley in the Village of Palmyra  Tuesday February 29, 1876.

Present    M. C. Finley,   Wm. H. Southwick,  Geo. G. Jessup       Justices

                Oliver Durfee     Town Clerk

George Harrison Supervisor presented his Report for the year and the same having been examined by the Board and found correct it was approved and placed on file

The Commissioners of Highways presented their Report, which after some corrections was declared approved & that the same be placed on file

On motion Board adjourned sine die.

Annual Town Meeting Minutes   1876

 

 

At the Annual Town Meeting held in the Village Hall in the Village of Palmyra in and for the Town of Palmyra on Tuesday  March 7, 1876

Present Presiding:   M. C. Finley,  Wm. H. Southwick,  Geo. G. Jessup   Justices of the Peace

                              Oliver Durfee    Town Clerk

The Polls were declared opened at 8:00 o’clock A.M. and the electors proceeded to vote.

At 1 o’clock P.M. the Reports of the Supervisor & Commissioners of Highways were read and adopted.  The following resolutions were adopted

          Resolved,   That the sum of Twelve hundred dollars be raised by tax for the support of the Poor of the Town of Palmyra for the ensuing year.

          Resolved,   That there be raised by tax upon the taxable property of the Town of Palmyra the sum of $200.00 for the purpose of and to be used by the Supervisor of the Town in his discietion ? in aiding in the proper observance of the ensuing 4th day of July,  in the Village of Palmyra

          Resolved     That the sum of Eighty five & 65/100 dollars  the balance of the Education Fund voted at the last annual Town Meeting be transferred to the Poor & Contingent Fund

 

We the undersigned presiding officers of the Annual Town Meeting of the Town of Palmyra, held March 7, 1876 do hereby certify that the following persons were duly elected to the respective offices set opposite their names.  They having received the greatest number of votes for each of said offices respectively-

We do hereby appoint Albert S. Rogers in Election District No. 1 and Amherst C. Beal  in Election District No. 2 in said Town Inspectors of Election in said Districts respectively, to be associated with the two in each of said Districts who have this day been duly elected Inspectors of Election for the ensuing year.  The said Albert S. Rogers and Amherst C. Beal each being one of the persons who received the highest number of votes respectively for said office next to the Inspectors so elected.

W e also do appoint Frank ? Brown one of the Board of Town Auditors to be associated with the two persons elected as Town Auditors he having received the highest number of votes for said office next to those so elected.

On motion Board adjourned until Saturday March 11, 1876 at 2 o’clock P.M.

On motion    Resolved   That the Bond of the supervisor be for the amount of Five Thousand Dollars.  The Supervisor not having executed his bond.  On motion the Board adjourned to
