1870 Annual Town Meeting
Minutes
At the annual town meeting held at Palmyra Hall in the Village of Palmyra in and for the town of Palmyra on the 1st day of March 1870
Present Presiding: Mark C. Finley, James Reeves, Murganzy Hopkins-Justices

At 8 o’clock A.M. the polls of the Town Meeting were opened by proclamation and the electors proceeded to vote
On motion. Voted That the Supervisors report as read be accepted and adopted
On motion, Voted That the Highway Commissioners report as read be accepted and adopted
On motion, Voted That the reports of the Supervisor and Highway Commissioners be published in the Palmyra Courier
The following resolution was adopted with but one dissenting vote—Resolved –That $300 be raised by a tax on the taxable property of the town to be disbursed by and under the direction of the Commissioners of Highways of said town towards straightening and grading the highway over Hog-Back hill from near Anson Hilimire residence ? thirty to Amherst C. Beal’s premises.
We the officers presiding at the annual Town Meeting held Mar. 1st 1870 do hereby certify that the following persons were duly elected to the respective offices set opposite their names they having received the greatest number of votes for each of the said offices respectively:
Charles C. Johnson---Supervisor, Wm. W. Myrick---Town Clerk, Timothy S. Jackson---Justice, George Harrison---Highway Commissioner, Isaac Besley---Overseer of Poor,
Alanson Sherman---Assessor, John W. Corning---Collector, Lewis D. Clark, Albert Sherman, O. Spencer Stevens, William H. Whipple---Constables, Valinder Nines &
Albert Niles---Inspectors of Election Dist. No.1, Hiram Carpenter & Wm. C. Beal---Inspectors of Election Dist. No.2
And that the forgoing minutes of the said Town Meeting are in all respects correct

We the undersigned presiding officers of the annual Town Meeting held in the town of Palmyra Mar. 1st 1870 do hereby appoint Joseph W. Corning in Election district No.1 and Joel W. Hardy in Election district No.2 in the said town Inspectors of Election in said districts respectively to be associated with the two each of the said districts respectively who have this day been elected Inspectors of Election for the ensuing year. The said Joseph W.
Corning and Joel W. Hardy each bring one of the persons who received at the said Town Meeting the highest number of votes respectively for said office of Inspector next Inspectors so Elected.

On motion, Voted, That the Commissioners of Highways be authorized to raise ($900)
Nine hundred dollars for the purpose of repairing bridges

At a meeting of the Board of Town Auditors held at the office of M.C. Finley Esq. Nov 10th 1870 Present: Charles D. Johnson, Supervisor, M. C. Finley, Murganzy Hopkins,
James Reeves, Justices, Wm. W. Myrick, Town Clerk
On motion. Voted That a tax of ($500) Five hundred dollars be raised to be appropriated by the Highway commissioners for bridge purposes.
On motion, the Physicians bills this day presented were allowed subject to corrections by the Supervisor and Town Clerk.
