1867 Annual Town Meeting Minutes

 

At the annual town meeting held at the office of H. S. Flower in the Village of Palmyra in and for the Town  of Palmyra on the 5th day of March 1867  pursuant to adjournment

Present Presiding:   M. C. Finley,  John A. Holmes,  Wm. H. Southwick,  James Reeves  Justices     Wm. W. Myrick  Town Clerk

At 8:20 o’clock A.M. the polls of the Town Meeting were declared open by proclamation of John

A. Holmes and the electors proceeded to vote

VOTED   That the Supervisors report, as read be accepted and adopted

VOTED   That the report of the commissioners of Highways as read be accepted and adopted

 

At 2 o’clock P.M. the following named persons were duly chosen overseers of Highways for the ensuing year

We the undersigned officers presiding at the annual Town Meeting held pursuant to adjournment at the office of Henry S. Flower in the Village of Palmyra in and for the Town of Palmyra, Wayne County and State of New York on the 5th day of March 1867 do hereby certify that the following named persons were duly elected to the respective offices set opposite their names,  they having received the greatest nmber of votes for each of the said offices respectfully:

Charles D. Johnson---Supervisor,   Wm. W. Myrick---Town Clerk,   James Reeves---Justice of the Peace,   Lucas G. Buckley---Assessor,   Henry W. Feller---Com. Of Highways,

George Brown---Overseer of Poor,   Edgar W. Cummings---Collector,  Edgar W. Cummings,

Philip Keehl, Warren Gorton & Lewis D. Clark---Constables, Cullen H. Rogers , P. Tucker &  John H. Gilbert---District No.1 Supervisors of Election,  Gilbert H. Reeves , Wm. C. Beal &

Jeter Warner---District No.2  Supervisors of Election,  Willard S. Henderson---Town Sealer

The forgoing minutes of said Town Meeting are in all respects correct.

We the officers presiding at the Annual town meeting held in and for the Town of Palmyra on the 5th day March 1867 do hereby appoint Cullen H. Rogers in Election Dist. No.1 and Gilbert H. Reeves in Election Dist. No.2, in said Town Inspectors of Election in said Districts respectfully to be associated with the two in each of said districts respectively who have this day been elected Inspectors of Election for the ensuing year.

The said Cullen H. Rogers and Gilbert H. Reeves each being one of the persons who received at said Town Meeting the highest number of votes respectfully for said office of Inspectors of Election next to the inspectors so elected.

At a meeting of the Town Auditors held at M. C. Finley’s office Nov. 7th 1867

Present:  Chas. D. Johnson, Supervisor,  M. C. Finley, Wm. H. Southwick, Jno. A. Holmes,

Jas. Reeves,   Justices     Wm. W. Myrick   Town Clerk

The following preamble and resolution was offered and passed  Viz.

Whereas, We the undersigned Board of Town Auditors of the town of Palmyra believing that the expenses for medical service to the poor of said town are larger than they should be therefore

Resolved,  that from and after the 7th day of Nov. 1867 we will establish the price for visiting and medicine to the poor living within the corporation of the Village of Palmyra at fifty cents a visit.
