1865 Annual Town Meeting Minutes

 

At the Annual Town Meeting held at the Village Hall in the Village of Palmyra, in and for the Town of Palmyra, on the 7^th day of March 1865  pursuant to adjournment-

Present presiding  John A. Holmes, Wm. H. Southwick, M. C. Finley, Jas. Reeves-Justices

W. Tyler Jr.  Town Clerk

And at 8/2 o’clock A.M. The Polls of the Town Meeting were declared opened by proclamation of Mark C. Finley and Electors proceeded to vote

VOTED   That four Constables be Elected for the ensuing year

VOTED   That the Supervisors report, as read be accepted and adopted

VOTED   That the Report of the Commissioners of Highways as read, be accepted and adopted.

A resolution offered by Jas. Peddie to raise a tax of $500.00 for the improvement of the Road between the Canal Bridge and the Creek Bridge on Rail Road Avenue, was lost

The following named persons were duly chosen Overseer of Highways, for the ensuing year, at Two o’clock P.M.

VOTED   That when this meeting adjourn it adjourn to meet at the Village Hall, in the Village of Palmyra, on the 1^st Tuesday March 1866 at 8 o’clock A.M.

We the undersigned Officers presiding at the Annual Town Meeting held pursuant to adjournment at the Village Hall in the Village of Palmyra, Wayne County State of New York on the 7^th March, 1865.  We do certify that the following persons were dully elected to the respective offices set opposite their names, they having received the greatest number of votes, for each of the said offices respectively

 Henry S. Flower---Supervisor,   Wells Tyler Jr.---Town Clerk,   Mark C. Finley---Justice of the Peace,   Joel R. Foster---Assessor,   Asa K. White---Commissioner of Highways,

Asa T. Chase---Overseer of Poor,   Irvin f. Eggleston---Collector,   Irvin F. Eggleston,

George Brown, Joseph s. Williamson, & William Tibbetts---Constables,  Avery S. Durfee &

Cullen H. Rogers---District No.1 Inspectors of Election,  James O. Clark & Luther P. Jagger---District No.2 Inspectors of Election,   Joseph S. Williamson---Town Sealer

And that the forgoing minutes of said Town Meeting are in all respects correct.

We the officers presiding at the Annual Town Meeting held in the Town of Palmyra on the

7^th day of March, 1865 do hereby appoint John H. Gilbert, in Election District No.1 and

Abram F. Stearns in Election District No.2 in said Town Inspectors of Election in said Districts respectively, to be associated with the two in each of said Districts respectively

Who have this day been Elected Inspectors of Election for the ensuing year.  The said John H. Gilbert & Abram F. Stearns each being one of the persons who received at said Town Meeting the highest number of votes respectively for said office of Inspector next to the Inspectors so Elected
