1856 Palmyra Annual Town
Meeting Minutes
At the annual Town Meeting of the Town of Palmyra held pursuant to an adjournment at the Eagle Hotel kept by Wm. Doran in the Village of Palmyra on Tuesday March 4th 1856. Present presiding, Ambrose Salisbury, Jas. Peddie, J. W. Corning, Geo G. Jessup Justices of the Peace and L. D. Nims Town Clerk
VOTED That four constables be elected for the ensuing year.
VOTED That the report of the Supervisor be accepted
VOTED That the report of the commissioners of Highways be accepted
VOTED That Wm. Doran be allowed Twelve dollars for the use of his house for the present Town Meeting
The following named persons having received the greatest number of votes an declared duly elected to the several and respective offices for which they are respectfully named to Wit

Charles B. Bingham---Collector, Charles B. Bingham, William F. Moore, Edwin Stacy, George C. Williams---Constables, John H. Gilbert and Luther M. Chase---Inspectors of Election Dist. No 1, Luther Sanford and Darius Pullman---Inspectors of Election Dist. No 2
The following named persons were duly chosen overseers of Highways in and for the respective Road Districts to which they are named as follows to wit

We the Board of town officers of the town of Palmyra at the annual town meeting held therein on the 4th day of March 1856. Do certify that we have and we do hereby appoint the following named persons to be Inspectors of Election respectively in the two Election Districts in said town to wit Hiram Van Duzen on of the Inspectors of Election for Dist. No 1 in said town of Palmyra and Thomas S. Hooper one of the Inspectors of Election in District No 2 in Palmyra aforesaid,
The said Hiram Van Duzen and the said Thomas S. Hooper having received the greatest number of votes for Inspectors of Election for the respective Districts to which they were named next to the Inspectors duly elected by the people.
Given under our hands at Palmyra this 4th day of March 1856.
