1854 Town Of Palmyra Minutes

 

At the annual Town meeting of the town of Palmyra held pursuant to adjournment at the Eagle Hotel kept by Wm. Doran in the Village of Palmyra on Tuesday March 7th 1854

Present presiding Isaac E. Beecher, James Peddie, Geo G. Jessup, A. Sailsbury,

L. M. Chase Town Clerk  it was

VOTED  That four constables be chosen for the ensuing year

VOTED  That the report of commissioners of highways be accepted and adopted

VOTED  That the report of the supervisor and town clerk be accepted

VOTED  That ten dollars be paid Wm. Doran for the use of house for holding this Town meeting

VOTED  That when this meeting adjourn it adjourn to meet at its next annual Town meeting at the Eagle Hotel in the Village of Palmyra now kept by Wm. Doran

The following named persons having received the greatest number of votes were declared duly elected to the several and respective offices for which they are respectfully names

To wit.  Supervisor---Philip Palmer,  Justice of the Peace---Joseph W. Corning,

Town Clerk---Luther M. Chase,  Commissioner of Highways—Bela Morgan

Assessor---Jacob C. Pettitt,  Overseer of the Poor---Washington Shermon, 

Collector---Wm. F. Moore,  Inspectors of Election District No. 1---Samuel Palmer and

Lorenzo Parker,   Inspectors of Election District No. 2---Darius Pullman and H. M. Clark,

Constables---Wm. T. Moore, Washington Shermon, Joel R. Foster, A. L. Cray,

Town  Sealer---Butler Newton

The following named persons were duly chosen Path Masters or overseers of the Highways in and for the respective Districts for which they are named

We the Board  of Town Officers of the Town of Palmyra at the annual Town meeting held therein on the 7th day of March 1854 do certify that we have and do hereby appoint the following named persons to be Inspectors of Election respectfully in the two election District  to wit

John H Gilbert to be one of the inspectors in and for Dist. No 1 and Ira Perry to be one of the inspectors in and for Dist. No 2 in the town of Palmyra aforesaid.  Said Gilbert and Perry having received the greatest number of votes for Inspectors of election next to the Inspectors duly elected by the people

At a meeting of the Commissioners of Highways, ordered that on the application of the following named persons, viz:  Hendee Parshall, Rodney Kellogg, I. G. Phillips,

Wm. R. Johnson, David Goldsmith, Jas. Durfee, Nathan Durfee, Martin Winslow,

Wm. Eldredge,  that they shall work all the labor assessed to them, on the Palmyra

And Pultney Villa Plank Road under the direction of one of the directors of said Plank Road:

Also, that all the labor assessed to the said Plank Road Company, shall be worked on said road.
