1853 Town of Palmyra Minutes

 

At the Annual Town meeting of the Town of Palmyra held pursuant to adjournment at the Eagle Hotel kept by William Doran in the Village of Palmyra on Tuesday April 5th 1853,

Present presiding, Isaac E. Beecher, Ambrose Salisbury, Frederick Smith, James Peddie,Justices.     Henry S. Flower   Town Clerk

It was

VOTED  That four Constables be chosen for the ensuing year

VOTED  That the Supervisor be instructed to pay William Doran five dollars for use of his house at this (election) Town Meeting

VOTED  That the Report of Commissioners of Highways be accepted and adopted and that Two hundred and fifty dollars be raised in addition to the sum allowed by law for repairs of Roads and Bridges

VOTED  That the Five hundred dollars for the repairing and improving of the road between the Canal bridge at Huxleys Tavern and the Creek Bridge and for the improvement of said Creek Bridge as applied for by some of the electors of this Town be raised

VOTED  That the report of the Supervisor and Town Clerk be accepted

VOTED  That when this meeting adjourns it adjourn to meet at its next annual Town meeting at Eagle Hotel in the Village of Palmyra now kept by Wm. Doran

The following named persons having received the greatest number of votes were declared duly elected to the several and respective offices for which they are respectively named.

We the Board of Town Officers of the town of Palmyra at the Annual Town Meeting held therein on the 5th day of April 1853 do certify that we have and do hereby appoint the following named persons to be Inspectors of Elections respectively in the two election Districts to wit.   Augustus Elmendorf to be one of the inspectors in and for Dist. No 1, and Charles Hudson to be one of the inspectors in and for Dist. No 2, in Town of Palmyra aforesaid, said Elmendorf and Hudson having received the greatest number of votes for Inspectors of Election next to the Inspectors duly elected by the people.  It was also Resolved That in the opinion of the people of the Town of Palmyra it is expedient and desirable to change the day for the holding of the Annual Town Meetings in the County of Wayne to the first Tuesday in March, and that the Supervisor of this Town is instructed to advocate such change in the Board of Supervisors.

Appointments of Pathmasters

By virtue of the powers vested in the Commissioners of highways of said Town and pursuant to the Statue in such cases made and provided we do by these presents appoint the following named persons as overseers of highways in and for road districts no. 9,20,24 & 29 to supply the vacancies occasioned by the refusal of Silas Culver no. 9, John Jagger No. 20, 

A.    P. Bromfield no. 24, Geo. Parsons no. 29 to serve.   To wit Luther Sanford Dist. No. 9,

Henry Post Dist. No. 20, Danl. I. Ropeman No. 29

Appointments of Inspectors of Election Dist. No 1

Town of Palmyra

Whereas at the last annual Town meeting held in and for the town of Palmyra in the county of Wayne   Jacob C Pettit and Hazard W. Rogers of the said town of Palmyra were chosen Inspectors of Election for Assembly District No. 1 in said town and whereas the said Jacob C. Pettit and Hazard W. Rogers neglected or refused to file their acceptance of the said office of Inspector according to the law in such case made and provided.

We the Supervisor, Town Clerk and three of the Justices of the Peace of the said town of Palmyra do hereby appoint Jacob C. Pettit and Hazard W. Rogers Inspectors of Election of Assembly District No. 1 in the said town Palmyra
