Tuesday 2nd of April, 1850

At the annual town meeting in the town of Palmyra held pursuant to adjournment at the Bunker Hill Hotel kept by B Newton in the village of Palmyra on Tuesday the 2nd day of April 1850

 

Present Presiding Ambrose Salisbury, Isaac E Beecher, W H Southwick Esq, Fred K Smith, Justices of the peace in and for said town Amos C Sanford Town Clerk, it vas

 

Voted – that five constables be chosen for the ensuing year

 

Voted – that fifty dollars in addition to the sum allowed by law be raised for constructing and repairing roads and bridges

 

Voted – that one 15? Dollars be repaid to supervisors to Jas. Webb? For tax collected twice.

 

Voted – that when we adjourn this meeting be adjourned until the first Tuesday of April next at the public house kept by Francis Bortles.

 

Voted – that the supervisor be instructed to pay Butler Newton five dollars for use of house this day

 

Voted – that the supervisor be instructed to refund the following erroneous taxes; to John Hurlbut one 15/000 dollars for error in copying; to C C Thurber three dollars for tax paid on J Rogers dogs; to Michael Eggleston seventy five cents for tax on property assessed twice; to Erastus Hazen seventy five cents for same cause; to Lorenzo Saunders seventy five cents for same cause.

 

Voted – that the supervisor be instructed to ? for the town correct standards of weights and measures

 

Voted – that the supervisor be instructed to oppose the rebuilding of the county buildings at Lyons.

 

Voted – that this meeting is in favor of dividing the county

 

Voted – that the supervisor be directed to secure by ? the old town burying ground

The town clerks report of bills audited and funds on hand was read and accepted

 

The report of Commissioners of Highways to town auditors was read and estimates objected to.

 

The following persons having received the highest number of votes are declared duly elected to the several and respective offices for which they are respectively named to wit:

We the board of town officers of the town of Palmyra at the annual town meeting held therein on the 2nd day of April 1850 do certify that we have and do hereby appoint the following named persons to be inspectors of elections respectively in two election districts to wit Peter M Stupplebeen one of the inspectors of election for the election district number one in said town of Palmyra and Aaron Hosmer? To be one of the Inspectors of election for district number 2 in Palmyra the said Stupplebeen and Hosmer having received the greatest number of votes for inspectors of election for the inspection district forinspectors of election next to the inspectors duly elected by the people.

          By virtue of the powers vested in us Commissioners of highways of said town and pursuant to the statutes in such cases made and provided we do these presents appoint the following named persons as overseers of highways in and for road district Number 4, 6, 18, 35 to supply the vacancies occassioned by the refusal of Samuel Acker, Timothy Tripp, and Cyrenus Jagger to serve of James Van Ness Taken in the village of Palmyra to wit C C Thompson for District number 4, H W Rogers no 6 Truman Clark, No 18, Jeter Jagger No 35.
