Tuesday 1st of April, 1845

 

 

At the annual Town meeting of the inhabitants of the town of Palmyra held pursuant to adjournment at the Public House occupied by Butler Newton in the Village of Palmyra on tuesday the first day of April 1845. 

 

                                                Present

George w Cuyler Esq – Isaac E Beecher, and Samuel Cole E? Justices of the peace, in and ford said town and Augustus Elmendorf, Town Clerk,

 

Voted – that three assessors and three constables be chosen for the ensuing year

 

The following named persons having received the greatest number of votes are declared duly elected to the several and respective offices for which they are respectively named – to wit –

Samuel Palmer and Jacob Norris were appointed inspectors of election by the board of town officers.

           

            The following named persons were duly chosen overseers of highways in and for the respective road districts to which they are named as follows, to wit:

Voted – that the collector of this town be allowed three per cent for collecting of taxes the ensuing year.

 

Voted – that the board of supervisors of this county are hereby authorized to cause to be raised by tax on this town the ensuing year three hundred and fifty dollars in addition to two hundred fifty dollars, the sum now allowed by law; to pay for constructing or repairing roads and bridges in said Town of Palmyra

 

Voted – that the commissioners of highways be and are hereby instructed to apply from the monies raised for the construction or repairing of road and bridges in the first place: so much as is necessary to pay the entire indebtedness of the town incurred for road and bridges.

 

Voted – that the claims of Gardner Hicks to be refunded a portion of his tax of 1843 by reason of the same having been paid both in Palmyra and Marion, be referred to the supervisors for investigation and if in his opinion the claim is just, he be authorized to pay the amount erroneously assessed from the con? Fund of the town.

 

Voted – that it be recommended to the board of supervisors of this county to refund from the dog fund the sum of two dollars to William M Howell for manifest error in assessment of tax on dogs in the year 1843; and the further sum of two dollars to Durfee Chase for erroneous tax pain on a dog.

 

Voted – That the fence? viewers be allowed twenty-five cents each for every service or view and a certificate of the change ascertained by them.

 

Voted – that this meeting stand adjourned until the first Tuesday of April next then to be held at the public house (Bunker Hill House) now kept by Butler Newton in the village of  Palmyra at 10 o’clock a.m.

We the board of town officers of the town of Palmyra at the annual town meeting held therein on the first day of April 1845, do certify that we have and we do hereby appoint the following named persons to be inspectors of election respectively in the two election districts to wit: Samuel Palmer one of the inspectors of election for district number one in the said town of Palmyra and Jacob Norris one of the inspectors of election for district number two in Palmyra aforesaid.

            The said Samuel Palmer and the said Jacob Norris, having received the greatest number of votes for inspectors of election for the respective districts for which they are named next to the inspectors duly elected by the people.

            Given under our hands at Palmyra in town meeting assembled this 1st day of April 1845.

            By virtue of the power vested in us Commissioners of Highways of said town and pursuants and the statutes in such cases made and provided to by these present appoints the following named persons as overseers of highways in the following road districts

At a meeting of the Supervisors, town clerk, and town superintendent of common schools of the town of Palmyra at the town clerk’s office in said town on the 2nd day of July 1845 – pursuant to an act of the legislature of the state of new York, entitled an act relation to the census or enumeration of the inhabitants of the state passed on May 7th 1845..

            The following named persons were and are hereby appointed marshals in and for the election districts to which they are respectively named to wit:

            John M Francis of said town of Palmyra is hereby appointed Marshal in and for election district No 1, James Culver of said town of Palmyra is hereby appointed Marshal in and for election district No 1, James Culver of said town of Palmyra hereby appointed Marshal in and for election district no 2.

Came into the enclosure of the subscriber about 3 miles north of the Village of Palmyra a red yearling heifer.  Said heifer came upon my premises the 11th instant.  Dated Palmyra, March 18th, 1845.  Isaac Burn

On November 20th came into the enclosure of the subscriber one dar brindle heifer about one year old, fair size and in good order.
