Tuesday  3d day of April 1838

 

 

At the annual town meeting of the inhabitants of the Town of Palmyra held at the town house in the Village of Palmyra on Tuesday the 3d of April l838.

 

                                                Present

Ambrose Salsbury Frederick Smith William Willcox & Isaac E Beecher Justices of the peace & inspectors & WF Aldrich town Clerk

 

Voted – That three asesors and three constables be chosen for the ensuing year –

 

The following persons having received the greatest number of votes are declared duly elected to the several and respective offices                                                                                     To wit:

 

George W Cuyler – Supervisor            

William F. Aldrich – Town Clerk

Lyman Reeves – Assessor

Joseph Willcox – Assessor

Oliver Durfee – Assessor

John T. Tripp – Commissioner of Highways

Samuel T Horton – Commissioner of Highways

The following person were chosen Overseers of Highways in the respective Road Districts to which they are named as follows Viz:

Voted – That the Collector be allowed 5 per cent on the public money collected by him –

 

Then being but two Commissioners of Highways chosen, two others voted for as Commissioners, having received the greatest & an equal number of votes, it was voted that the meeting adjourn until tomorrow at two oclock p.m. to meet at the same place for the purpose of choosing a commissioner.

 

                                                Wednesday, April 4, 2 oclock P.M

 

The meeting convened pursuant to adjournment and proceeded to vote for a commissioner of highways.  On counting the votes it was found that Ambrose Salsbury had received the greatest number of votes for that office

He was declared duly elected thereto –

 

Voted – That this meeting stand adjourned until the first Tuesday of April next then to be held at the School house near Hiram Fosters at 10 oclock A. M.
