At the annual town meeting of the inhabitants of the Town of Palmyra held at the Presbyterian Meeting House in the Village of Palmyra in said town on Tuesday, April 1st, 1834, present:  Frederick Smith, Ambrose Salisbury, and William Willcox, Esquires, Justices of the Peace of said town and Inspectors of said meeting.

 

Voted that we choose three Assessors.

 

Voted that we choose three Constables.

 

Voted that the Commissioners and Inspectors of Common Schools be allowed $1 per day for their services.

 

Voted that the Fence Viewers be allowed two shillings each for each time they are called out in discharge of their duties.

 

The following persons having received the greatest number of votes are declared duly elected to the several and respective offices:  viz., Frederick Smith – Supervisor

Voted that milk cows be not free commoners.

 

Voted that we reconsider the vote declaring milk cows not be free commoners.

 

Voted that milk cows be commoners between April 1st and November 1st.

 

Voted that fences in order to be sufficient shall be 4 1/2 feet high.

 

Voted that the Supervisor of said town raise the sum of $33 for the purpose of refunding taxes improperly assessed.

 

Voted that this meeting stand adjourned until the first Tuesday of April next, then to be held at the Presbyterian Meeting House at 10:00 a.m.

Niles, Clerk of the Town of Palmyra:  We, the Commissioners of Highways for the Town of Palmyra, do hereby appoint William Rogers for Overseer of Highways for Road District No. 5 and Daniel Abbott for Road district No. 14.  In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands the 22nd day of April, 1834.

Broke into the enclosure of Caleb Beal one yearling or about one year old brindle steer some white on his back and white in his face.  April 29, 1834.  Caleb Beal

Broke into the enclosure of the subscriber on November 24th, instant, a young bay horse supposed to be about four years old.  The owner is desired to prove property and pay charges and take him away.  Palmyra, November 27th, 1834.  Abner T. Lakey

 

Came into the enclosure of the subscriber about the middle of November, a red steer calf.  The owner is desired to prove property and pay charges and take him away.  Abner T. Lakey  Palmyra, November 27, 1834.

Broke into the enclosure of the subscriber on January 22nd, instant, one red cow, two red heifers two years old next spring.  The owner is desired to proved property, pay charges, and take them away.  Palmyra, January 26, 1835.  Stephen Sweeney

Town of Palmyra.  Whereas the office of Collector of the said town has become vacant by the resignation of Truman Heminway, chosen Collector of the said Town of Palmyra, now therefore we the undersigned, Supervisor and two Justices of the Peace of the said town do hereby appoint Francis Bartles to the Office of Collector of the said town in the place of the said Truman Heminway.  Given under our hands and seals on December 3rd, 1834.

Town of Palmyra, ss:  Whereas the Office of Inspector of Common Schools of the Town of Palmyra has become vacant in consequence of Hiram Lister, one of the inspectors chosen at the last annual town meeting in said town, having neglected to qualify as the law in such cases directs and in consequence of Jacob H. Quinby and Elisha Foote, who were also chosen Inspectors of Common Schools at the last annual town meeting having removed from the said Town of Palmyra; now therefore we, the undersigned three of the Justices of the Peace of the said Town of Palmyra, do

Hereby appoint George P. Eddy, Jeremiah Russell, and Hiram Niles, Inspectors of Common Schools in the place of the first above mentioned persons.
