Records of the survey of an alteration of the highway leading by H. Jessup’s Sawmill, beginning at the end and center of the road, ending on the south side of his mill dam (which road runs east by the Methodist Meeting House), thence north 16 degrees, west 15 rods to a stake, thence north 5½ degrees, west to the center of Main Street in Palmyra Village, said road to be 3 rods wide.  January 13th, 1828.

Upon a written application made to us, the Commissioners of Common Schools of the Town of Palmyra, County of Wayne, for that purpose, we do adjudge and direct that all that part of School District No. 2 in said town bounded west by the west line of a lot of land owned by the heirs of Festus Goldsmith, deceased, east by the east line of land belonging to the heirs of Elisha Matheson, deceased, north by the Erie Canal and south by the south line of said town, be and the same is hereby annexed to School District No. 9 in said town.  Dated January 28, 1828.

We, the Commissioners of Highways of the Town of Palmyra, do adjudge and declare that the highway leading from the south boundary of the Corporation of the village of Palmyra by David S. Jackways to the town line shall be one road district in said Town of Palmyra and shall be known and distinguished as Road District No. 1, and that the highway leading from the said south boundary of said corporation by Cyrus Foster to the town line shall be one road district in the said Town of Palmyra and shall be known and distinguished as Road district No. 2, and that the highway leading from said south boundary of said corporation by Stephen Willcox’s shall be one road district in the said Town of Palmyra and shall be known and distinguished as Road District No. 3 and that all that part of Road district No. 11 lying north of the improvement of Hezekiah Miller’s home farm, beginning at a certain pitch pole fence running east and west to be one road district in the said Town of Palmyra and shall be known and distinguished as Road District No. 26, and we do further adjudge and declare that so much of the highway that belonged to Road District No.2 lying north of the north bank of Mud Creek on the highway leading north from the Presbyterian Meeting House in the village of Palmyra to Nathan Harris’ is annexed to Road District No. 13; and that, that part of the highway leading from Luke Mason’s to the town line as far as Ambrose Salisbury’s south line is annexed to Road District No. 8, and that the highway leading from thence south to the center of the highway running easterly by David H. Sherman and Bates is annexed to Road District No. 14 and that the remainder of said highway south is annexed to Road District No. 7, and that the highway lately laid out running east from James Tinney to the town line is annexed to Road District No. 14, and that so much of the highway that belongs to Road District No. 21 lying east of Samuel Durfee’s west line is annexed to Road District No. 12, and so much of the highway leading west from the widow Howell’s to the village of Palmyra that belonged to road district No. 3, which is not included within the bounds of the Corporation of the Village of Palmyra is annexed to Road District No. 4.  Palmyra, March 28th, 1828.

At the annual town meeting of the inhabitants of the Town of Palmyra at the Presbyterian Meeting House in the Village of Palmyra on April 1st, 1828, present:  Frederick Smith, Ambrose Salisbury, and Alexander R. Tiffany, Esqs. , Justices of the Peace of said town and presiding officers of said meeting.

 

Voted that Frederick Smith serve as Supervisor the year ensuing.

 

Voted that Marlin W. Willcox serve as Town Clerk the year ensuing.

 

Voted that Edward S. Townsend and Joel Foster serve as Overseers of the Poor the year ensuing.

 

Voted that George Culver, Zebulon Reeves, and Samuel T. Horton serve as Commissioners of Highways the year ensuing.

 

Voted that Ambrose Salisbury, William Willcox, and William Sarke(?) serve as Assessors the year ensuing.

 

Voted that Alexander R. Tiffany, Ambrose Grow, and Nathaniel H. Beckwith serve as Commissioners of Common Schools the year ensuing.

 

Voted that Cullin Foster, Maltby Clark, and Lewis Foster serve as Inspectors of Common Schools the year ensuing.

 

Voted that Truman Heminway serve as Collector the year ensuing.

 

Voted that we choose four Constables in said town.

 

Voted that Truman Heminway, Cullin Foster, George Smith, and William R. Corwin serve as Constables the year ensuing.

 

Voted that the following persons serve as Overseers of Highways in the several road districts for which they are severally chosen:

Voted that several Overseers of Highways serve as Fence Viewers the year ensuing.

 

Voted that Commissioners and Inspectors of Common Schools be paid $.75 per day for their services.

 

Voted that the Collector have but 3% for collecting.

 

Voted that the Supervisor procure as many blank books for the use of the town as he shall think beneficial and pay for them out of the contingent money of said town.

 

Voted that this meeting adjourn until the first Tuesday of April next at 10:00 in the forenoon at this place.

Survey of a public highway 4 rods wide established by us, the commissioners of Highways of the Town of Palmyra and Arcadia, in the center of a highway leading from the village of Newark to the town line on the north side of the Erie Canal, thence south 50 degrees, west 34 rod, and 8 links.  From thence south 48 degrees, west 50 rods until it intersects a public highway crossing the Erie Canal.

 

Zebulon reeves, the other commissioner, was notified and attended at the time.  Palmyra, June 9th, 1828.

Survey of a public highway established 4 rods by us, the Commissioners of Highways of the Town of Palmyra, commencing on the town line between the Town of Palmyra and the Town of Manchester 2 rods northwest from the southeast corner of Thomas goldsmith’s farm, thence east 11 degrees, north 44 rods, from thence east 48 degrees, north 16 rods to the center of a highway crossing the Erie Canal.  By David Perry.  Zebulon Reeves, the other Commissioner, was notified and attended at the time.  Palmyra, June 9th, 1828.

At a special town meeting of the inhabitants of the Town of Palmyra convened at the Presbyterian Meeting House in the village of Palmyra pursuant to public notice for the purpose of choosing one Constable and one Inspector of Common Schools in the place of Cullin Foster, who resigned.  January 23, 1829.

 

Present:  A. R. Tiffany and William Willcox, Esquires, Justices of the Peace of said town and Inspectors of the meeting.

 

Voted that it is inexpedient to choose a constable to fill said vacancy.

 

Voted that this meeting adjourn.  Sine Die.
