1827 Minutes:  Gina J. Buck’s mark:  A hollow crop off the right ear.  May 18, 1827.

 

Uriah McClavis’ mark:  A crop off the left ear and a halfpenny the upper side of the right ear.  (Transferred from George Durfee, page 187.)  May 22nd, 1827.

 

Broke into the enclosure of the subscriber sometime in the month of September, last, 6 or 7 sheep, ear marks not distinctly ascertained.

At the annual town meeting held in the meeting house in the Village of Palmyra on Tuesday, April 3rd, 1827; present:  James White, Ambrose Salisbury, Frederick Smith, and Alexander R. Tiffany, Esq., Justices of the Peace of said Town of Palmyra and Inspectors of said meeting.

 

Voted that Frederick Smith serve as Supervisor for the year ensuing.

 

Voted that Marlin W. Willcox serve as Town Clerk the year ensuing.

 

Voted that we choose but three Assessors.

 

Voted that Truman Hart, Ambrose Salisbury, and William Willcox serve as Assessors for the year ensuing.

 

Voted that George Culver, Zebulon Reeves, and Edward S. Townsend serve as Commissioners of Highways for the year ensuing.

 

Voted that Maltby Clark, Cullin Foster, and George N. Williams serve as Inspectors of Common Schools for the year ensuing.

 

Voted that Alexander R. Tiffany, Ambrose Grow, and Theron R. Strong serve as Commissioners of Common Schools for the year ensuing.

 

Voted that the Collector have but 3% for collecting taxes.

 

Voted that Truman Heminway serve as Collector for the year ensuing

 

Voted that Luther Reeves and Oliver Clark serve as Overseers of the Poor for the year ensuing.

 

Voted that we choose but four Constables.

 

Voted that Cullin Foster, Truman Heminway, Daniel Hendee, and William R. Corwin serve as Constables for the year ensuing.

 

Voted that the following persons serve as Overseers of the Highways for the district for which they are elected:

Voted that the Overseers of Highways serve as Fence Viewers for the year ensuing.

 

Voted that Commissioners and Inspectors of Common Schools be allowed $.75 per day for their services.

 

Voted that $25 be raised to extinguish a debt which the town owes for erecting the bridge on Mud Creek on the Turnpike Road near Barnhart’s Mill and that it be paid to the supervisor for said purpose.

 

Voted that the sum of $150 be raised by the town for the purpose of repairing roads and bridges.

 

Voted that the sum of $20 be raised by the town to extinguish a claim that Marquis & Cole has against the town for injury done to an ox of his in consequence of the badness of a bridge and that it be paid to the supervisor for said purpose.

 

Voted that the Town Clerk procure two good and suitable books for the use of the town—one for the record of highways and the other for the record of school districts and that the amount paid out of the money raised for the repairs of road and bridges.

 

Voted that the vote taken requiring the Town Clerk to purchase two books be reconsidered.

 

Voted that this meeting adjourn to meet again at the Presbyterian Meeting House in the village of Palmyra on the first Tuesday of April, next, at 10:00 a.m.

At a special town meeting held at the Presbyterian Meeting House in the Village of Palmyra on May 29th, 1827, pursuant to public notice for the purpose of choosing a constable in the place of Daniel Hendee and an Assessor in the place of Truman Hart, which offices have become vacant.  Present:  Frederick Smith, Esq., Supervisor.  Voted that George Smith serve as Constable.  Voted that Truman Hart serve as Assessor.

Minutes of the relaying the road leading from Garner Wait to the highway leading from Palmyra to Pultneyville by David Upton’s as surveyed by Reuben Adams and Peter Eddy, two of the Commissioners of Highways for the Town of Marion and Zebulon Reeves and Edward S. Townsend, tow of the Commissioners of Highways for the Town of Palmyra.  Beginning at the southeast corner of Garner Wait’s lot, thence east on the town line 198 rods to the center of the said highway leading from Palmyra to Pultneyville by consent of all parties.

Minutes of a public highway 3 rods wide, beginning at the center of Main Street 1½ rods west of John Kellogg’s dwelling house in the village of Palmyra, running north 5 degrees, west 13 rods, thence west 26 degrees, north 65 rods from said Kellogg’s west line to the east line of Joseph Colt’s land and near Roger Baron in Palmyra Village to be 3 rods and 5 links in width from said Kellogg’s west line to said Colt’s east line.  Survey through the center of said road, thence beginning on the line between Joseph Colt’s and Peteg Holmes, 1½ rods north of a stake standing on said line to designate the south line of said road, running north 82 degrees, west 31 rods, and 12 links, thence north 86 degrees, west 30 to the center of a public highway running by the Presbyterian Meeting House by Nathan Harris’ said road to be 3 rods wide.  All by the consent of the parties.  Palmyra, June 9th, 1827.

Minutes of the alteration of the highway leading from the schoolhouse in District No. 6 to Pardon Willcox’s beginning at the center of the old road at the foot of the hill 2 rods northeast of a small hickory tree marked with 3 hacks and a finger running north 12 degrees, west 24 rods, thence north 3 degrees, west 96 rods to the center of the heretofore newly laid road on the north of Hezekiah Miller’s improvements of his home far.  All by the consent of all parties.  Dated July 9th, 1827.

Records of a highway sworn to be necessary by twelve freeholds of the town of Palmyra as laid by the commissioners of said town.  Beginning at certain elm tree on the town line between Palmyra and Arcadia in the center of a highway and running west on the line of lots between Charles Seely on the south and Horace Terry & Gideon Terry on the north 144 rods to the center of a highway leading south from the East Presbyterian Meeting House in Palmyra.  Palmyra, December, 1827.

Minutes of a survey of an alteration of a highway leading from the turnpike by George Brown’s to the Friends’ Meeting House in Palmyra, sworn to be necessary by twelve freeholders of the Town of Palmyra and laid by the Commissioners of Highways for Palmyra, beginning at a certain cherry tree marked H near George Brown’s east line and near the south side of the present highway, thence southeast 38 rods (said line to be the south side of said highway) to the center of the turnpike near to Greg’s furnace.  Palmyra, December, 1827.
