1810 Minutes

 

At the annual town meeting held in Palmyra on the first Tuesday in April, at the Center School House.  Levi Ward, Ira Selby, and James Reeves being Inspectors of said meeting.  The meeting being opened, Gain Robinson was elected Town Clerk according to law.

 

Pardon Durfee was elected Supervisor.

 

David Willcox, Edward Durfee, and William Porter were elected Assessors of Taxes for the ensuing year.

 

Nathan Comstock, Nathan Harris, and George Culver were elected Commissioners of Highways for the ensuing year.

 

Nathan Comstock and Noah Porter were elected Overseers of the Poor.

 

David White was elected Collector for the ensuing year.

 

David White and Nathaniel G. Holmes – Constables for the ensuing year.

 

The following men were elected Overseers of Highways (Road Districts) for the ensuing year, viz.:

1810.  Voted that Overseers of Highways shall be Fence Viewers for the ensuing year.

 

Voted the law concerning horses and swine shall stand as it did in the year 1804 on page 101.

 

Voted that rams shall not run at large.  Any person finding them astray may castrate the same with impunity.

 

Voted all persons permitting Canada thistle to see on his or her farm after being notified for the same shall forfeit the sum of $5.00 for every such offense, one-half to the complainant; the other half to be appropriated for the use of the town.

 

Voted that this meeting be adjourned to the first Tuesday in April next.  Then to meet at this place at 10:00 a.m. for the purpose of doing business.

1810.    William Winslow’s mark:  Transferred from Sam Millet’s mark; viz., a half crop the upper side the right ear and a slit in the end of the left, from page 63.

April 9th, 1810.  Linus Foster took and subscribed the obligation of Overseer of Highways before James Reeves, Justice of the Peace.

 

April 8th, 1810.  Sunderland Patterson, Pardon Willcox, Rufus Wells, Lemuel Durfee, David Willcox, Isaac Durfee, Willis Killey, Moses Baker, William Thayer, John Kingman, and James Parshall took and subscribed the obligation of Overseers of Highways and Fence Viewers before Ira Selby, Justice of the Peace.

 

April 19th, 1810.  Pardon Durfee took and subscribed the obligation of Supervisor before Levi Ward, Justice of the Peace.

June 4th, 1810.  A record of the minutes of a road as surveyed by Nathan Harris and George Culver, Commissioners of Highways; viz., beginning at the south line of Main Street in the village of Palmyra about 4 rods east of the east end of Azel Ensworth’s house, where it now stands to the center of said road and on the line of two village lots now owned by William H. Cuyler, Esq., thence south 40 rods, thence south 1 degree, east 100 rods, thence south 8 degrees, west 40 rods on Cyrus Foster’s land, thence south on the line between Cyrus Foster and Joseph Colt’s land, 2 degrees east and also between Joseph Colt and William H. Cuyler’s land, 148 rods on David Hooker’s land in front of his house where it now stands, thence south 5 degrees east about 100 rods on the line between Silas Hart and Enoch Saunder’s land, thence south 9 degrees east through the said Saunder’s land, 63 rods to the south line of the Town of Palmyra.  Said road is laid 4 rods wide.  (Canandaigua south in margin.)

 

September 20th, 1810.  A record of the minutes of a road as surveyed by Nathan Harris and George Culver, Commissioners of Highways; viz., beginning on the town line of Farmington joining Parshall Terry’s land about six rods east of the old road on the northeast part of Farmington, running north 39 degrees, west 34 rods intersecting the old road leading by Parshall Terry’’s, thence running on the above said old road 250 rods, thence north 45 degrees, west 72 rods, thence west 28 degrees, north 45 rods to the road running north and south by Thomas Rogers about 6 rods south of the said Rogers’ dwelling house.

 

September 26th, 1810.  A record of the discontinuation of a part of a road as record on page 43 as surveyed by Job Durfee and James Reeves on January 22nd, 1799 and discontinued by Nathan Harris and George Culver, Commissioners of Highways as above; viz., beginning where the highway surveyed by Abraham Gallop and Levi Ward on May 30th, 1807, does begin as appeared on page 126.  Thence running northeasterly up Thomas Cornwall;s hill until it meets the road above on page 126, and the same is hereby discontinued.

 

November 22, 1810.  A record of the minutes of a road as surveyed by George Culver and Nathan Harris, Commissioners of Highways; viz., beginning on the south side of the road running east and west on the north side of Mud Creek about 3 rods east of Howell Post’s house where it now stands, thence south 20 degrees, east 8 rods and 11 links, thence east 33 degrees, south 18 rods, thence south 2 degrees, east across Mud Creek 33 rods until it intersects the road on the south side of said creek running east and west by James Galloway’s.  The above described line being the west line of said road.

 

February 20, 1810.  Otis Turner’s mark:  Two swallow’s tails in the left ear.

 

February 20, 1810.  Jeremiah Bullock’’s mark:  A crop off the left ear and a three-square hole in the center of the right.

 

January 20, 1810.  A record of the minutes of a road as surveyed by Nathan Comstock and Nathan Harris, Commissioners of Highways; viz., beginning about 4 rods south of the northwest corner of Lot No. 13 on Rufus Wells' land, thence south 15 degrees, east 20 rods, thence south 12 degrees and a half degree, 104 rods to the center of a road on Moses Baker's land, and the said commissioners do hereby discontinue the section of a road lying west of and occasioned by the above described road.

March 5, 1810.  A record of the minutes of a road as surveyed by Nathan Comstock and Nathan Harris, Commissioners of Highways; viz., beginning on the north line of the Town of Palmyra at the southwest corner of Abner Lawson's land in the center of a road through the Town of Ontario, thence south 2 ½ degrees, east 68 rods, thence south 5 degrees, east 140 rods, thence southwest 10006 rods, thence south on a lot line 65 rodss to the center of a highway running east and west on Jonathan Landsdill's land.

March 16, 1810.  A record of the minutes of the alteration of a road as surveyed by Nathan Comstock and Nathan Harris, Commissioners of Highways; viz., beginning in the center of the road running north and south from the Village in Palmyra to Nathan Harris on the north side of Mud Creek near Joseph Stephenson, thence east 3 degrees, south 44 rods, thence east 3 degrees, north 30 rods until it intersects the old road near Isaac Arnold's west line.

 

1810.  A record of the minutes of the alteration of the south line of Main Street in the Village of Palmyra as done by Nathan Comstock and Nathan Harris, kCommissioners of Highways; viz., beginning at a stake on the west line of Canandaigua Road at its junction with Main Street, thence west 1 degree, north as the needle of the old compass of the town hunddd until it strikes the center of the chimney in william Jackway's house, 114 rods and 20 links to a stake in the said south line of Main Street directly opposite to a stake in the southeast corner of William P. Willson's lot.  Said alteration made by the commissioners at the request of a number of the inhabitants living on said Main Street.

1810.  A record of the minutes of a road surveyed by Nathan Harris, George Culver, and Nathan Comstock, Commissioners of Highways; viz., beginning on the south bank of Mud Creek at the bridge about 8 rods west of John Manhart's house, thence south 40 degrees, east 7 rods to the center running east and west on the south side of said creek.

1810.  A record of the minutess of a road as suveyed by Nathan Harris, Nathan Comstock, and George Culver, Commissioners of Highways; viz., beginning in the center of a road running north and south on the top of the ridge about 30 rods east of Benjamin Williams near the place where the road descends the hill west, thence east 23 degrees, south 83 rods, thence east 80 rods, thence east 18 degrees, south 60 rods, thence south 35 degrees, east 20 rods, thence east 207 rods to the center of a road running south from Humphrey Sherman's to Geneva.

 

1810.  1st Road District:  An alteration of the 1st Road District from page 118 as done by Nathan Comstock, Nathan Harris, and George Culver, Commissioners of Highways; viz., the lst Road District is to extend to west line of Lot No. 24 in Township No. 12 in the range on the south side of Mud Creek, thence north on the east line of Abraham Speer's land until it intersects the roads running east and west on the north side of Mud Creek.  (Altered on page 158.)

 

1810.  20th Road District:  Altered from page 130 by Nathan Comstock, Nathan Harris, and George Culver, Commissioners of Highways; viz., beginning on the west line of Lot No. 24  in Township No.12, 3rd Range near Richardson's Store on the north side of Mud Creek.  West thence to the west line of the road running north and south by David Still's house, thence north on said road to Webb Harwood's west line, thence east on the road on the north line of Mud Creek to east line of No. 12, 3rd Range including all the inhabitants residing on the above said road.

 

1810.  21st Road District: is continued from the west line of Lot No. 10 in Township No. 12, 3rd Range easterly down the road from Benjamin Aldrich's house to the bridge on Mud Creek near Samuel Smith's grist mill as altered from page 131.

 

1810.  17th Road District is continued from Richard Willett's houssse to Darius comstock as altered from page 121.

 

1810.  22nd Road District is continued from Patersonn Hathaway's mill by Joseph Comstock's house to the 16th Road District from page 143.  That part of the road which is recorded on page 149 and which lies on the south side oof Mud Creek is added to the 5th Road District.

 

1810.  23rd Road District:  That paart of the road which is recorded on the bottom of page 141 and on the top of page 142; viz., beginning at the north line of the Town of Palmyra, thence south to north line of Linus Leland's land including all the inhabitants living on said road to be the 23rd Road District.

 

1810.   A record of the alteration of a road as surveyed by Nathan Comstock, Nathan Harris, and George Culver, Commissioners of Highways; viz., beginning in the center of the road now running north and south through Paul Goldsmith's lot on the north line of said lot, thence south 21 degrees, west 72 rods to a maple tree on the east side of the road.  Then beginning in the road opposite Nathan Parshal's barn, thence south 41 degrees, west 50 rods when it intersects the old road at the foot of Shaw's hill, thence south 41 degrees, west 96 rods where it intersects the old road near Perry Davis' house.  Said commissioners had the consent of the owners of the land through which they laid the above described road.  The sections of the old road occupied by the survey of the above described road are hereby discontinued.

 

1810.  Axel Ensworth's mark:  A half penny the underside of the right ear.  (Transferred from General Swift on page 9.)  (Transferred to Thomas Rogers on page 187.)

 

May 24th, 1820.  Samuel Jennings' mark:  A square crop in the right ear; a slit in the left with a half penny in the under and upper side of the same.
