1807 – 1809 Minutes                                                         March 24th, 1807

 

Statement of a division of the several Road Districts in the Town of Palmyra:

 

1st Road District beginning on the south bank of Mud Creek and west line of a road on the west line of No. 12, 2nd Range, thence south on said line to the south line of the town and from the place of beginning east on the bank of said creek to the west line of John Crandal’s land, thence east on the said bank of said creek to the mouth of Red Creek, thence south to the town line.  (Altered on page 152.)

 

2nd Road District beginning on the south bank of Mud Creek and west line of William Howel’s farm, thence east on said bank to the west line of a road leading from Gideon Durfee’s to Thomas Goldsmith;s, thence east on the north bank of said creek across said road, thence east on the south bank of said creek to David Willcox’s east line, thence east on the north bank of said creek until it will compare with the east line of the land improved by Jonathan Horton, thence south to the town line.  (Altered on page 159.)

 

3rd Road District beginning on the north bank of Mud Creek opposite the above mentioned Norton’s east line, thence east on the bank of said creek opposite James Galloway’s east line, thence south on the east line of a road nearly on said line to a road leading by said Galloway’s house, thence southerly on the northeasterly side of a road leading by Thomas Cornwell’s to the south line of the town and bounded west by the 2nd Road District, including John Manhart, James Galloway, and Thomas Goldsmith, Jr.

 

4th Road District beginning on James Galloway’s east line and south bank of Mud Creek, thence east on said bank to Humphrey Shearman’s east line, thence east on the north bank of said creek to the east line of the town, thence south to the south line of said town and bounded west by the 3rd Road District.

 

5th Road District bounded east by the east town line, south by the last mentioned district, north by the town line, and west by Jeddidiah Foster’s east line, thence north on south line until it strikes the west line of a road running by Daniel Jagger’s, thence northerly until it strikes William Rowley’s south line, thence west on said line to the southwest corner, thence north on said line to the north line of Palmyra.  (Altered on page 153.)

 

6th Road District bounded east by the 5th Road District, north by the town line, south by the south bank of Mud Creek and west by the west line Howell Post’s land, thence north to the town line.

 

7th Road District bounded east by the 6th Road District, north by the north line of the town, south by the 2nd Road District, and west by a line beginning on the north bank of Red Creek in direction with Job Durfee’s west line, thence northerly to said Durfee’s north line, thence northerly to the southwest corner of Jenkin’s land, thence northerly on the west line of said land to the town line.

 

 

8th Road District bounded east by the 7th road District, north by the town line, south by the north bank of Red Creek, and west by west line of Township No. 12, 2nd Range.

 

9th Road District beginning on the north bank of Red Creek at its confluence with Mud Creek, thence westerly on said bank of Red Creek to the mouth of the south branch of Red Creek, thence westerly on the said bank of said branch until it intersect the east line of a road leading from John Swift’s mill to Ephraim Green’s, thence southerly on said line of said road to the north line of Lot No. 23 in No. 12, 3rd Range, thence west to the west line of said lot, thence south on said line of said lot to its southwest corner, thence east on the south line of said lot to its southeast corner, thence south on the west line of Lot No. 1 to the south line of No. 12 in the 3rd Range, thence east on said line of No 12 in the 3rd Range, thence east on said line until it intersects the west line of a road running north and south by Doctor Gain Robinson on said line of said road to the south bank of Mud Creek, thence east across said road, thence north across said creek, thence east on the north bank of said creek to the place of beginning.

 

10th Road District bounded north by the north line of No. 12, 3rd Range, east by the east line of said township, south by the 9th Road District, and west by a line drawn north and south through the center of Lots No. 47, 50, and 71.

 

11th Road District bounded east by the 10th Road District, north by the north line of the town, west by the west line of Lots No. 70, 51, and 46 to the northwest corner of Lemuel Spear’s land, and south and east by the 9th road district.  (Altered on page 159.)

 

12th Road District bounded east by the 11th Road District, north by the north line of the town, west by a line drawn north and south through the center of Township No. 12, 3rd Range, and south by the north line of a road leading from Nathan Comstock’s to Jacob Gannett’s, and the north line of Lot No. 23, excepting Nathan Comstock’’s and Webb Harwood’s.

 

13th Road District bounded east by the 12th Road District, north by the north line of the town, west by the west line of the town, and south by a line drawn through the center of what is called the Great Swamp.

 

14th Road District beginning at the junction of two roads a few rods west of Webb Harwood’s, thence south to the south bank of Mud Creek, thence westerly on said bank to a bridge across said creek near Jeremiah Smith’s, thence northerly the east line of the road to Cyrus Packard’s land, thence northerly on the west line a road leading from said Packard’s farm to a road running east and west by Bartimus Packard’s, thence north to the 13th Road District, and bounded north by the 12th and 13th Road District.

 

15th Road District bounded north by the 13th Road District, west by the west line of the town, east by the 14th Road District and Lots No. 8 and 17, and south by a line beginning at the northwest corner of David Baker’s farm, thence easterly to the east line of a road running by Jeremiah Smith’s, thence on said line of said road to a bridge across Mud Creek, thence east to the west line of Lot No. 8.

 

16th Road District bounded north by the 15th Road district, south and west by the town line, and east by Lot No. 8.

 

17th road District bounded west by the 16th road District, north by the 14th Road District, south by the town line, and east by the east line of Lots No. 20 and 5.  (Altered on page 152.)

 

18th Road District bounded west by the 14th and 17th Road District, south by the town line, east by the 9th Road District, and north by the 12th Road District, including Webb Harwood and Nathan Comstock.

Voted that the Overseers of Highways serve as Fence Viewers.

 

Voted that there be money raised by the town sufficient  to erect a pound.

 

Voted the pound be erected on south side of the highway between Asa Lilly’s and Zachariah Blackmon’s.

 

Voted that the supervisor be authorized to build said  pound.

 

Zachariah Blackmon chosen Pound Master.

 

Voted to raise the sum of $40 for the support of the poor.

 

Voted the supervisor be authorized to erect a pair of stocks at the expense of the town.

 

Voted that the Fence Viewers be the competent judges of the sufficiency of fences of any form.

 

Voted the contrary notwithstanding as it respects said horses, male swine, other ____, rams, and wolves the same as formerly.

 

Voted this meeting by dissolves and to meet at this place at the next annual town meeting at 10:00 a.m.

Alteration of a public highway beginning 10 rods west of Henry Jessup's house for the south line of said road, thence west 2 degrees, south 116 rods to the center of a road running north and south by Azel Ensworth's.

Record of the survey of a highway in the center of a highway the west side of Paul Reed's mill pond that crosses said pond, thence north 15 degrees east, 8 rods, thence north 5 degrees, west 17 rods to the south line of said mill pond.

 

Record of the survey of a public highway beginning in the center of a public highway about 40 rods south of John Parker's, thence east on the division between said Parker's and Bruce Aldrich's, 38 rods and 7 links, thence east on the line between said Bruce Aldrich's and Sylvenus Conant's, 30 rods, thence south 1½ rods, thence east on Ethan Lapham's land across the dead marsh and swamp 28 rods, thence east 43 degrees, south on said Lapham's land 114 rods, thence east 34 degrees, south 19 rods to the east line of said Lapham's land.

Survey of a public highway beginning on the north line of township No. 12, 2nd Range and in the center of a public highway leading southerly to Job Durfee's, thence south 31 degrees, west 19 rods, thence south 10 degrees, east 24 rods, thence south 16 degrees, east 36 rods, where it connects with a road that lead southerly to Job Durfee's.

Record of the survey of a public highway in No. 12, 3rd Range beginning at or near the southeast corner of John Fuller's Lot No. 41 connecting with a north and south road leading from John Fuller's to Jacob Gannett's mill, thence west 24 degrees, north 20 rods, 17 links, thence west 15 degrees, north 21 rods, 11 links, thence west 11 degrees, north 12 rods, 23 links, thence west 225 degrees, north 24 rods, west 5 degrees, north 21 rods, 5 links, thence west 8 degrees, north 20 rods, 20 links, thence west 18 degrees, north 60 rods, thence north 31 degrees, west 34 rods, thence west 7 degrees, south 145 rods, thence 19 degrees north and thence west 16 degrees south from Jared Comstock's west line of Lot No. 40, 10 rods.  The place of beginning of the following described road in the center of the above described road on said Jared Comstock's west line of Lot No. 40, thence running a northerly course on or near said line 10 rods, thence No. 49 degrees, east 12 rods, thence north 49 degrees west to said line 12 rods, thence north on Jared Comstock's west line 51 rods, thence north until it intersect the road running east and west by Artimus Ward's road.

Record of the survey of a public highway beginning 2 rods north of the north corner of a barn built by Reuben Town, thence west 13 degrees, south 60 rods, thence west 16 degrees, south 66 rods, to a road running north and south from John Swift's mill to Williamson.

Survey of the alteration of a public highway beginning about 2 rods east of the center school house in Palmyra in the center of a public highway running northerly to Nathan Harris', thence north 30 degrees, east 8l rods, thence west 41 degrees, north 22 rods, thence north 35 degrees, east 10 rods to the center of the above described road.

 

Explored and approved August 22, 1880007, by:  Abraham Gallop, James Reeves, and Levi Ward – Commissioners of Highways.  (See pages 17 to 95 – 107 – 129 – 187 – 198.)

 

Survey of the alteration of a public highway beginning in the center of a public highway running west by Stephen Durfee's about 4 rods west of the center of a bridge between Stephen Durfee's and Lemuel Durfee's, thence west 21 degrees, south 15 rods, thence west 30 degrees, south 76 rods, thence west on the division line between Nathan Harris' and Stephen Durfee's, 16 rods to the center of the above mentioned highway.

 

Explored and approved August 22nd, 1807, by:  Abraham Gallop, James Reeves, and Levi Ward – Commissioners of Highways.

 

Record of the survey of the alteration of a public highway leading east and west by Ephram Green's beginning in the center of said highway 2 rods south of the northwest corner of said Green's lot, thence east 23 degrees, south 50 rods, thence east 12 degrees, south 16 rods, thence east 19 degrees, south 70 rods to the center of the above described road about 12 rods west of said Green's house.

 

Explored and approved August 22nd, 1807, by:  Abraham Gallop, James Reeves, and Levi Ward – Commissioners of Highways.  (East and west by Almond Green's.)

 

Record of the survey of the alteration of a public highway running southerly from then north line of No. 12, 2nd Range by Stephen Durfee's beginning at a causeway in the center of said highway about one mile south of said town line, thence south 27 degrees, east 30 rods, thence south 19 degrees, east 16 rods, thence south 10 degrees, east 94 rods, thence south 4 degrees, east 34 rods to the center of the above described highway.

Record of the survey of a discontinuance of a highway beginning on the west line of the town at the center of a public highway that crosses William Peters' land at a large maple tree, thence east 25 degrees, south 97 rods to Hopkins Arnol's land, thence south 30 degrees, east 45 rods across said Arnol's land to connect with the state road north of Caleb McCumbers'.
