CANANDAIGUA STREET CONSTRUCTION
The Canandaigua Street reconstruction project will be starting on or about the first week of May. The project will result in many positive benefits for our school community. Once completed a separate lane will exist in front of the school for parking. This will certainly provide a safer drop-off/pick-up area for families. Sidewalks will be reconstructed to allow a better walking route for our children. As we wait patiently for these needed improvements, we will need to adjust to the construction occurring in front of the school... (read more)

UPDATE September 3, 2010 -
With good weather, and most of the underground infrastructure work completed, the project appears to be moving fairly quickly now.  Rizzo Construction has essentially completed work on the box culvert near the Brookside intersection along with paving work in front of the Primary School.  Granite curbing is nearing completion along the entire east side.  Weather-permitting, sidewalks are intended to be poured and ready for use in front of the Primary School for the first day of school on 9/8/10.  After the Labor Day weekend they intend to complete any remaining box-out and granite work on the east side, start sidewalk work from Jackson Street southward, finish paving on the east side of the street and raise all water valves, manholes and catchbasins to finish grade.  Traffic is intended to be transferred onto the newly paved east side (the true northbound lane) on/around Friday September 17th, so that the west side of the street can be worked on.  Traffic flow will continue northbound only while work progresses on the west side of the street.  With good late-summer weather the project should continue to move along quickly.

UPDATE August 30, 2010 - Rizzo Construction is nearing completion of the box culvert at Brookside Terrace.  Granite curbing was installed last week along the front of the Primary School and more granite curbing will be installed this week on the remainder of the east side.  By the end of this week there could even be some asphalt being placed on the east side lane.  Sidewalk work in front of the Primary School is also intended to commence this week.

UPDATE August 8, 2010 - The full detour is intended to be put into effect immediately following the WC Fair, Monday August 16th.  Until then, Rizzo Construction will continue storm sewer work this week and start the box culvert replacement at the Canandaigua Street/Brookside Terrace intersection next week.  After this culvert is replaced, the storm sewer installation will essentially be complete and they intend to start on the street box-out and curbing.

UPDATE July 25, 2010 - Rizzo Construction has completed most of the water work on the project.  Two crews are now working on storm sewer installation, working southward with a new 24” storm sewer trunk line to the south end of the project.  This trunk line is expected to be completed by early this week.  They will then start working in the block between Main and Jackson, in front of the Primary School, with more storm sewer installation.  The new box culvert near Brookside intersection for Brookside Creek is intended to be replaced in mid August.  It is at this time that the full project detour will be instituted.

UPDATE July 8, 2010 - Rizzo Construction has primarily been completing all remaining watermain work.  For the past two weeks there were watermain tie-ins at Foster Street and the south end of the project limit, as well as, the completion of all remaining water services.  Thursday, July 8th, was devoted to connecting the water service for the Primary School to the new 12” water main and today they intend to perform some cleanup work before each weekend.  Monday, July 12th, they intend to complete the final watermain tie-in at the Jackson Street intersection.  This will essentially complete the watermain phase of the project.

The intended schedule for the next two weeks primarily involves the installation of new storm sewers. During this phase of the project they intend to have two crews working, which could involve more than one work zone depending on the spacing of the two crews.  They intend to have one crew working southward from the Charlotte intersection to the south end of the project and a second crew working in the two-block section between Main Street and Brookside Terrace.  The intention is to have the entire storm sewer installed before the big box culvert is finally installed near the Brookside intersection, thus completing the new storm system and making it functional.

You may notice that more signs have been installed around the Town, Village and project limits but that they are currently ‘bagged’.  These are the detour signs.  The full detour is not expected until the box culvert work, which likely won’t happen to late July or early August.  Remember, the detour will allow all sizes of vehicles to travel northbound only thru the project, but southbound traffic will need to adhere to the detour route (trucks over 5 tons to Canandaigua Road in Macedon and vehicles less than 5 tons to Hyde/Stafford/Temple roads).

Please call or email if you have any questions, comments or concerns.  Thank you for your patience during this project.

UPDATE June 25, 2010 - Over the past two weeks, Rizzo Construction has continued to transfer existing water services from the old 4” watermain to the 12” watermain.  The old 4” watermain in the section between Jackson intersection and Foster intersection was recently discontinued and abandon as all the services in this section are now on the 12” watermain.  We hope to have water sampling results for the newly installed watermain in the block between Jackson and Main very soon.  As soon as we do these existing water services will also be transferred onto the new 12” watermain that was recently installed under the west-side sidewalk.  The only water services left to transfer are in the blocks between Jackson to Main and Foster to the southern project limit.  While we are awaiting the sampling results from the NYS DOH, Rizzo has started the installation of a run of 24” storm sewer in the block between Brookside Terrace and Charlotte Ave.

The intended schedule for the next two weeks includes watermain tie-in work at the intersection of Foster Street.  There will be a tie-in of the existing 6” watermain on West Foster to the newly installed 12” watermain, as well as, a tie-in of the 6” watermain on East Foster.  There will be shut-downs of the water system for this work and there will be resident notifications very soon.  The final tie-in of the new 12” watermain at the very south end of the project is also anticipated next week. Again, residents are required to be notified by the Contractor.  When the contractor is not able to perform water work, they intend to continue installing the storm sewer in the section between Charlotte Ave and Jackson Street.  They do not intend to work on Monday July 5th.   The official detour signs will continue to be installed for the project but it is not expected to be put into effect until later in July.  Later next week the tree protection will also be installed for all street trees on the east side of the street.

UPDATE May 28, 2010 As everyone who has driven through the Village of Palmyra now knows, Rizzo Construction has started construction work on Canandaigua Street.  For the past couple weeks they have been installing new fire hydrants and new water main.  Next week they will be working directly across from the Primary School installing new water main under the sidewalk on the west side of the street.  Alternating one-way traffic will continue for the next several weeks as they complete all the water work, including new individual water services to all homes on the street.  The full blown detour will not start until sometime in July, after school lets out, and will then be one-way northbound only on Canandaigua Street.  Southbound motorists in vehicles less than 5 tons will then need to use the marked detour route which is Hyde Parkway to Stafford to Temple Road.  Southbound trucks over 5 tons will need to travel west on Rt.31 to Canandaigua Road (CR 8) in Macedon.
